Description

This luxurious Amalfi stationery, from one of the most renowned paper making centers in Europe, has been made by hand since the 14th century. Located on Italy's Amalfi Coast, this paper mill has produced exquisite stationery continuously since 1380. Each sheet is crafted with the utmost care, using many of the methods first developed in the Middle Ages. The deckled edge and distinctive watermark make it a superb choice in premium stationery.

Choose from one of two watermarks, the Amalfi Crest or the Angel watermark. The Amalfi Crest watermarked stationery includes matching envelopes that measure 4 1/2" x 8 3/4" and are used with a letter fold (two folds creating three panels). The Angel watermarked stationery includes envelopes that measure 6 1/2" x 9", and are used with a French fold (folded first vertically and then horizontally creating four panels).

This stationery is handmade by Cartiera Amatruda in the ancient duchy of Amalfi, Italy, one of the oldest and most renowned papermaking centers in Europe. The Amatruda paper mill is placed in the ancient Mill Valley of Amalfi, in an enchanting bridged position over the Canneto river. The first floor of the building dates back to the fifteenth century and the paper manufacturing tradition of the Amatruda family dates back to1380.

Traditionally, the papers have been watermarked with cities' coats-of-arms, as well as religious and heraldic symbols. Each deckle-edged sheet is crafted with the utmost care, using many of the traditional methods developed in the Middle Ages.

You could start with one of our 8 count products and test it to see if it meets your requirements. Since Amalfi's exquisite stationery has been produced since the 1380s, well before the Ballpoint and Rollerball arrived on the scene, I think it is safe to say that it must have worked successfully for a variety of inking methods, including the fountain pen. This is the finest paper I've ever used, and I am a self-proclaimed paper elitist. Regardless of pen used, the paper and the ink make love to one another.
Flawless paper, and the hand feel all others want to be. The 1961 ferrari, the patek phillipe of papers. Nothing, except 50 a sheet would be a bargain.

This stationery is, and has been for many years, the Best in my cabinet for the letters I write. There is no pen-ink combination, and I've used many, that isn't enhanced by it.
The texture allows any of my ink pens to glide over the surface and lay down a rich, consistent line and letter form. The blotter qualify is perfect for accentuating center words and letters. And people have related their experience of the touch in their hand while reading a letter on it. Only available by mail order, BUT, Vickery had it delivered 2 days after I ordered it online. Probably a shorter time than if I'd have gone to a store.

I first discovered Amalfi papers during a long stay in Switzerland. It is beautifully made, takes ink incredibly, and look and feels worth twice the price. I'm glad Vickerey offers it online.

Handwritten letters are far more personal than any other form of communication aside from face-to-face conversation. They reveal a side to the writer that may not have been intended but which adds to our understanding and appreciation of that writer's persona. A handwritten letter is best when it's been written on rare, unique and very special paper. Amalfi Watermarked Stationery IS that rare, unique and very special paper. I was also very pleased that a sheet of this paper, when folded in quarters, fit the envelope provided perfectly. I'll be back for more.
